Hip-Hop and fashion are two worlds that seem completely different, yet they manage to get inspiration from one another. Hip Hop mentions fashion brands in its lyrics, and fashion is inspired by its aesthetic. Hip-Hop, which was born as a cultural movement on the streets of the Bronx, now finds a place on the world’s main catwalks and in the biggest fashion houses.
One of the most popular trends for this autumn comes directly from rappers and the street and has already been approved by top models such as Gigi, Kendall and Hailey Baldwin. Inspiration comes not only from the silhouettes and clothing they wear, but also from the history and significance of the movement over the years.

Bomber jackets, an all-time favourite, will lead the streets for next season as statement piece. Crop-tops, miniskirts, tight dresses, straight pants, hoods, oversized clothing, denim, and metallic colours will be given a luxury makeover, moving Hip-Hop into the mainstream culture.

This trend, largely defined by music and youth, began with the frustration of young people living in the Bronx. Using their music to protest against the poor quality of life they had, the movement first spread in New York, then to young people in the United States, and soon the whole world would be drifting into this movement, becoming an important chapter in pop culture books. From there, fashion began to take note of what was seen on the streets, 1990 some designers included this aesthetic in their collections; Karl Lagerfeld did it in 1991 with piles of gold jewellery on his models.
Phat Farm, the first Hip Hop brand was born in the 90’s, taking the Hip Hop lifestyle to another level. In an interview with the New York Times, the rapper Nasir Jones, also known as Nas said: “What was important to me in the ’90s was representing that guy from the inner city, but once I brought that message from the block to the world, there became another side to it — a fancier, flyer side.”
